From 1970 to Today: A Family Legacy Carved in Stone

A family story in five acts, spanning two generations and two companies.

Act I: Foundations

1970: The Founding

The story of Aksoylar Mermer began at a time when Türkiye’s natural stone industry had yet to reach its present scale, and knowledge of production and processing was scarce.

In 1970, the brothers Süleyman Aksoy and Burhan Aksoy recognized a significant gap in the marble market. At the time, both the companies working in this field and the professionals skilled in cutting, processing and installing marble were few and far between. Seeing the industry’s potential early on, the two brothers decided to invest in it.

1970s: The Early Years: From Production to Trust

Aksoylar Mermer’s first commercial activities grew out of producing and selling stone products for everyday use. One of the company’s first jobs was supplying Platin Bilardo with the stone beds laid beneath its billiard tables.

These were the years in which Aksoylar Mermer came to see stone not merely as a decorative material, but as a technical product that could be worked to suit a wide range of uses.

1980: A New Era in Alibeyköy

Roughly a decade after its founding, Aksoylar Mermer took one of its first major steps toward growth.

In 1980, a new factory of approximately 5,000 m² opened in Alibeyköy. Beyond increasing the company’s production capacity, this investment marked its move toward a broader commercial vision.

A First Step into International Markets: Libya

One of the first significant steps in Aksoylar Mermer’s expansion into international markets was its export to Libya.

For the company’s first export, Marmara marble in thick, massive dimensions was shipped to the Libyan market.

1990: A New 15,000 m² Production Center in Beylikdüzü

As the company continued to grow, the need arose to move production into a larger, more modern facility.

In 1990, a new factory of approximately 15,000 m² was brought into operation in the Mermerciler district of Beylikdüzü.

Act II: Growth

1996: The Second Generation Joins the Company

In the history of Aksoylar Mermer, 1996 was an important turning point — not only for commercial growth, but for the future of the family business.

Having completed their university education, Mustafa Aksoy and Selim Aksoy took on active roles in the family company.

2000: Closer to the Source, with Greater Production Capacity

Another major investment in Aksoylar Mermer’s journey of growth came in 2000, in Mustafakemalpaşa, Bursa.

With the company’s marble quarries located in the region, producing closer to the source of the natural stone became a strategic choice. To that end, a new production facility of approximately 25,000 m² was built.

Aksoylar Mermer’s Own Quarries and Natural Stones

Over the years, one of the most important pillars of the company’s production strength was Aksoylar Mermer’s own marble quarries.

The natural stones extracted from these quarries, located in different regions, defined the character of Aksoylar Mermer’s product portfolio. Among the stones the company extracted from its own quarries and processed were

From 6 People to a Workforce of Hundreds

Having started with 6 people at its first factory in Silahtarağa, Aksoylar Mermer saw its workforce grow considerably as the company expanded.

At the height of activity across its factories, production operations and marble quarries, the company reached a workforce of around 500 people.

Expertise Built Through Architectural Projects

Large-scale architectural projects shaped a significant part of Aksoylar Mermer’s development over the years.

The company produced, supplied and installed natural stone for projects of every scale — from hotels to bank branches, from private buildings to public ones, from residential developments to entertainment and tourism facilities.

These projects helped Aksoylar Mermer grow not only as a marble producer, but as an organization able to offer solutions throughout the natural stone processes of architectural projects.

Istanbul

Notable work in Istanbul included projects such as the Ritz-Carlton Istanbul, the Sabancı Atlı Köşk, Garanti Bank branches, Akbank façade cladding, the Divan Hotel Taksim and Reina Club.

Work carried out repeatedly across different locations — bank branches and façade installations in particular — deepened the company’s project experience in product standardization and the organization of installation.

Among them:

Projects Across Türkiye

Aksoylar Mermer’s project portfolio was not limited to Istanbul and Antalya.

  • Acıbadem – Bursa,
  • Kolin Hotel – Çanakkale,
  • Sheraton Hotel – İzmir,
  • Bodrum Vogue Hotel – Muğla

— projects like these were also among the company’s work in other regions of the country.

Major Public Projects in Ankara

Over time, the company’s experience extended to large-scale public projects as well.

The New Prime Ministry Building in Beştepe, Ankara, and later the Presidential Palace – Ak Saray project, were among the important public buildings in Aksoylar Mermer’s body of work.

Projects of this scale demanded a high level of operational competence — not only natural stone production capacity, but also consistency of dimensions, color and texture, coordination of large volumes of material, and careful planning of the installation process.

From Türkiye to the World: The China Olympic House

Another of Aksoylar Mermer’s projects to draw international attention was the China Olympic House.

2014: The Second Generation’s New Venture

In 2014, the Aksoylar family’s expertise in the natural stone industry took on a new form through a new venture.

After many years of industry experience at the family company, Mustafa Aksoy and Selim Aksoy founded their own company, independent of the family business: Aksoylar Doğaltaş Granit Maden Sanayi ve Ticaret Limited Şirketi.

One of the projects Aksoylar Doğaltaş took part in right after its founding was Quasar Istanbul in Mecidiyeköy, Istanbul.

Carried out between 2014 and 2015, the work was one of the first examples of the second generation, through its new company, providing natural stone solutions for a large-scale mixed-use project in the heart of the city.

One of the most recent steps in more than half a century of natural stone experience was taken in 2024.

The natural stone journey carried forward by Mustafa Aksoy and Selim Aksoy as the second generation took on a new dimension with the opening of a luxury marble showroom of approximately 2,000 m².

Two Generations, One Legacy

At the heart of Aksoylar Mermer’s story of more than half a century lie more than factories, machines or production capacity.

At the company’s foundation is the complementary experience of two generations.

An Unchanging Philosophy

From the journey that began in 1970 at a 1,000 m² factory in Silahtarağa, on to Alibeyköy, Beylikdüzü, Mustafakemalpaşa in Bursa, its own quarries and international projects, the company’s scale changed dramatically.

The handful of machines of the early years gave way to a far larger production infrastructure.

From 1970 into the Future

Looking back on Aksoylar Mermer’s past today, what one sees is more than the growth story of an industrial company.

It is the story of a family enterprise that took shape alongside the development of Türkiye’s natural stone industry — of a culture of production, and of a professional legacy passed down through generations.
